Hay Fever

Poor Jake finally got a bit of a summer job. He's working for a farmer, baling straw. For those who don't know, straw is what is left in the feild after wheat is cut (harvested). The straw is raked into rows by and then picked up by the baler and made into...bales of straw...Straw is used for bedding for animals. Jacob is getting paid eight dollars an hour for this work, which he is glad to get, since his pockets have been pretty empty. However...this is not a healthy career move for someone who suffers from hay fever...He has been MISERABLE! The other night I saw him take an allergy pill, then he came to me and asked me if it was all right to have a drink of water after taking nyquill....then after he went to bed I noticed he left on the counter the nasal spray and the box of breathe right strips! Poor guy! The first time he came home from working I asked him how it was....he replied.."It was ok...I coughed up some black stuff" No matter what their age..kids say the darndest things........
Well,,,we are counting down the days till Calvin and Brooke's wedding! July 23 will be here before we know it!

I can definitely sympathize with poor Jake. I spent many summers on the back of bailing wagons, up in hay lofts, and walking fields detasseling corn. It is tough work, but it is also good, hands on work that helps develop an awesome work ethic and respect for those that do manual labor every day.
